About
What is TowerUp and why do we need it?
TowerUp is the most mechanically advanced wind turbine foundation available to date. It integrates a lifting mechanism that allows a single operator to easily raise up/down a wind turbine within 90 seconds. Our system eliminates the hassle of a large crew and cumbersome equipment. This makes regular maintenance, upgrades and repair an easy task. No more frustrations during hurricane season! While everyone else spend hours struggling to get their turbines to the ground, you simply lower yours in minutes to avoid the storm!
TowerUp comes with Platform, Plateau and the Lifting Mechanism. Schedule 40 Pipe (Tower) is not included. Pipes are available at your local hardware store.
Benefits of using TowerUp
-
One-man operation: Eliminates expense for a large crew, heavy equipment, tension cables, Cranes, Pulleys and Trucks
-
Severe Weather Emergency Response: Tower can be lower when wind turbine is actively spinning during storm, prevent damage and save your wind turbine during hurricane season (ALL personnel must stay CLEAR from rotating turbine blades until they come to a complete stop, we assume no liability for any injuries caused by rotating blades)
Drawbacks without TowerUp
See the Difference
After the initial purchasing price of TowerUp and your choice of wind turbine plus S&H / installation cost, every subsequent raising and lowering of the wind turbine will be free. On the other hand...
Conservatively speaking, if there are 3 storms per year it will cost around $900, but in reality, America gets hit by hurricane much more than 3 times a year... so TowerUp literally pays for itself after the first year.
The Physics Behind...
The above table shows how heavy of a turbine TowerUp can support at a given length of tower height. Below are specification of TowerUp:
Lifting Mechanism Loading Capacity: 1000kg Maximum Tower Height: 33' (10m) Maximum Turbine Weight: Refer to table above Material: Steel Corrosion Resistance: Anti-Rust Paint Diameter of Tower Support on Platform: Precisely 74.5mm Recommended Tower (Pipe) Specification: Schedule 40 2 1/2" Pipe (73mm), 5.79lb/ft, 0.2" thick Weight of System: 130lbs
Preparing Concrete Foundation:
- Dig a hole with a dimension of 80 x 80 x 80 cm
- Build a metal cube with dimension 60 x 60 x 60 cm using 12x 80cm x10mm steel rods
- Purchase 8 threaded J bolts (anchor bolts) with a diameter around 18 to 20 mm
- Make a card board with 8 holes matching the metal base
- Fill the hole with 10 cm of concrete and put the 60 cm metal cube in the center
- Stabilize the 8 anchor bolts into the hole with the card board we made in step 4, make sure the threaded part of the bolts is protruding above ground level
- Continue filling the hole with concrete for 15 cm
- Build a number sign "#" with 4x 80cm x 10mm steel rod, the square of the number sign should measure 30 x 30 cm and should be at the center
- Stick 4x 80cm x 10mm metal rod vertically at the corners of the 30 x 30 square. Make sure these rods do not stick out above ground by hammering them down
- Continue filling 30cm of concrete
- Build a 2nd 30 x 30cm number sign "#"
- Fill up concrete until level with ground.
- Wait 2 weeks for the concrete to dry (actual wait time will depend on the grade of your concrete)
- Place the plateau on the surface of the concrete foundation, with the end of 8 anchor bolts going thru the plateau.
- Secure the plateau to the 8 anchor bolts with washers and hex nuts
FAQ:
1. Why do I have to build metal frame (cube) with steel rods? Can I skip them? The metal rods are to reinforce the concrete. Without these rods, your foundation will be very brittle and will not last long.
2. I don't have enough space, can I dig a smaller hole? Yes, in the above demo pictures, our foundation is not 80cm cubed. It is 100 x 50 x 50 cm. You just need to scale you metal frame accordingly
